Walkalyze shows every walk, run and hike from Apple Health on one map, and how much ground you have explored. Your routes stay on your iPhone.
Getting started
- Record walks, runs or hikes with GPS: the Workout app on Apple Watch, Fitness on iPhone, or any app that saves its routes to Apple Health.
- Open Walkalyze and allow access to Workouts and Workout Routes when iOS asks.
- The first sync reads all your routes, which can take a minute or two if you have years of them. After that, only new workouts are read.
- Switch between Routes, Explored and Tiles at the top of the map.
Common questions
- The map is empty. Check that Walkalyze can read Workouts and Workout Routes: Health app › Profile › Privacy › Apps › Walkalyze. Indoor workouts, and workouts recorded without GPS, have no route to draw. You can also try the sample walks to see how the App works.
- What are tiles? The world is divided into the same square grid that Squadrats, StatsHunters and VeloViewer use. Zoom 14 tiles are about 1.8 km across in New York; zoom 17 tiles ("squadratinhos") are about 230 m. A square counts once any route passes through it. The max square is your largest block of squares with no gaps.
- What is new ground? The distance you covered on ground you had never walked before, measured on a 25 m grid. Repeating a route adds almost nothing, so it is a fairer measure of exploring than total miles. It is an estimate: GPS drift can add a little.
- Why don't the stats say what percent of my city I've walked? A true street percentage needs a map of every street in the city, which the App doesn't have yet. Tile and new-ground counts are exact for what they measure, so we show those instead.
- Can I count bike rides? Yes: turn on Cycling in Stats › Exploration Settings. Walks, runs and hikes count by default.
- Some routes are missing or look wrong. Stats › Cache & Diagnostics lists any routes that failed to load. Rebuild cache reads everything from Apple Health again.
- How do I move to a new iPhone? Nothing to do: your routes live in Apple Health, which moves with your iPhone. Walkalyze reads them again on the new phone.
